Copper has been mined in the region for over 6,500 years. Currently, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey are correlating Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) data with these deposits. When these methods are refined, the scientists will be able to map potential copper deposits worldwide.
